August 30, 2009
Metal lunchboxes nowadays considered as vintage items. Come to think of it, there’s not much to a school lunch box. It’s made of metal, and comes in a popular design of a cartoon or a popular toy. Designers keep current by featuring the most popular TV personality on the lunch box design.
What makes for a antique lunch box is the quality. Hobbyists of the old lunchbox has a set of standards. It should still be usable, not too dented, maybe with some rust. And primarily, it should have an interesting design.
Among the favorite collectible lunch boxes are those of old cartoons like Scooby-doo, and TV shows like Buck Rogers, sports personalities Hank Aaron, or movies like Star Wars.
Sad to say that increasingly more lunch boxes are now made of plastic. It’s very true that soon, metal lunch boxes would be obsolete. Though the boxes are constructed from cheap metal, it does not necessarily follow that they dent easily. On the contrary, metal lunch boxes have been kid-tested and strong.
A lot of collectors collect the metal collectible lunchbox for display. But there are a lot more who collect collectible lunch boxes because of the memories they had from their elementary days. It’s fun remembering about the regular peanut butter and jelly sandwich for school lunch. It does bring back memories.
