Using Sheets To Make Duvet Covers

May 31, 2009

For those of you who have been trying todiscount duvet covers then you probably well shocked to find out about how expensive the process can be. Don’t give up just yet because you can make the cover yourself. Below I share a few insights on how you can do this.

As a starter the outcome may not be the best quality like red denim duvet cover and sheet set you find in retail shops but the exercise can really be rewarding and self filling. One of the major difficulties with making one on your own is when it comes to taking care of the place where the sheets are inserted. the problem may be with the sewing at the top where you would have your closures.

I suggest you start from the beginning. First, organize all the sheets that you will need. Make them to be the material that you like - for example if you want a suede, velvet and satin duvet cover then buy material made from that particular style or fabric. Have the side pinned and the bottom pinned as well before you consider the top and how to fold the top sides.

Find the spot where the two sheet ends are joined together and make buttonholes. This should be at the top, right and then use the buttons to close. If you love ribbons you can use them as buttons. You should fold the sheet if it is longer than the quilt. I normally suggest folding it about 12 inches. You will then need to stitch it up on the sides such that it looks like an envelope closure.

When it comes to chooing the closure you can go for Velcro if you like something stiff, a zipper, snap tape or just snaps. My best option is nylon zippers. This is because they make it easy for me to dress up the bed.
