You need to determine w hat type of floor you have, before you start with the cleaning. In case you are a proud owner of a sealed floor, then it is most likely a surface sealed floor that will not take much of your time. In case you have an older floor, you most likely have penetrating seal treated floor. This type of floor needs more involved care with waxes and oils.
For cleaning hardwood floors, in the case of a surface sealed floor, you merely need to mop using a product recommended by your flooring manufacturer. You can use products that do not have any oil, like Oil Soap for example. Some soap and one damp mop are a good solution for this floor tyoe. It’s best to dry out your floors when you are done, because that water can ruin the surface of your flooring.
Mopping the floor with water-based products will not be possible if you have penetrating seal treated floor. But for routine cleanings, use a vacuum cleaner or a broom. You will have deep cleaned floors if you remove the old wax coating and apply new one every once in a while. You can do this once or twice a year, if you like.
Simply follow the directions from manufacturer and make sure you are using stripper. For your hardwood floors to dry properly you need to have good ventilation. Manufacturer will tell you what kind of wax you can buy to apply it on your floors. Follow directions and apply one or two coats, or as many as desired.
The final - and most important - step is applying a floor scrubber. Wax has to seal the floor properly and give it a beautiful shine, so you will have to use this process for sure. Lots of folks use floor buffer polisher so they can finish their job much faster and put that beautiful shine on the surface.
